PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT

A strong character and a personal code of ethics are essential to success, as defined by Monarch School. Students are continually presented with opportunities to develop both and are challenged to expand the parameters of their self-knowledge daily. This process is designed to prepare our students for a lifetime of development and long-term growth.

Because emotional health is key to a productive life, Monarch School has created a safe place for students to explore and understand issues standing in the way of their success. Students begin to explore their inner selves and develop tools that will serve them as healthy adults through the following venues: Group Sessions, Life Skills Instruction and Family Counseling Services.

Group Sessions
Each Tuesday and Friday afternoon, the entire student body, counseling staff and teachers participate in afternoon group sessions. Groups are small (about a dozen students) and are guided by experienced Life Skills Instructors who have identified objectives for each student in the group. Students learn to access and recognize emotions and to process issues in healthy ways. Counselors are trained to maintain a safe emotional environment and to aid students in planning strategies for coping with real-life issues.

Life Skill Instruction
Individual growth occurs daily and most students don’t recognize the time they spend with life skills instructors as development. Instead, an instructor may assist students in cooking a meal or might accompany them on a walk while discussing a troublesome issue. This individual time is designed to feel like real life and this casual approach helps to ensure that students feel loved and at home.
